Former Lagos State Governor Dies at 91

CBN bans Bitcoin and Crypto Currency transactions

   By Adigun Olayemi Central Bank of Nigeria has put an end to the activities of Bitcoin and crypto currency related transactions in Nigeria. This was made known in a circular circulated yesterday by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Banking Supervision Department Central Business Direct and signed by Mr Bello Hassan, Director of Banking Supervision and Mr Musa Jimoh, Director Payments System Management Department dated February 5, 2021. It was earlier stated on a circular dated  January 12, 2017 ,that the central Bank of Nigeria had cautioned Deposit money Banks (DMS) , Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NFBIs) , other Financial Institutions (OFIs) and members of the public on the risk associated with transactions in Crypto Currency. The body in the circular further made an assertion as dealing in Crypto Currency or facilitating payments for cypto currency exchanges is prohibited thereby imposing a ban on it. Paul Adefarasin, the founder of House On The Rock Ministry has announced the death of one of it's church pastor, Yinka Akinbami. Yinka Akinbami had reportedly died of coronavirus complications. In a statement on Saturday, the cleric said the deceased was someone deeply dear to him and the House On The Rock family. Paul Adefarasin noted how painful the loss is, saying that if there truly were good men, Akinbami was certainly one. The deceased had been with the church for over 25 years. Covid-19 : Worship Centers Reopen in Lagos State

  Worship centres in Lagos have re-opened partially across the state today, after being locked down for several months in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. This follows the directive announced by governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on august the 1st with the provision that worship centers can only fill up 50 per cent of their capacity. The state government last Thursday released several safety protocols and guidelines numbering 46 that must be adhered to during services at places of worship in the first phase. Worshipers are seen maintaining their social distance as they partake in worship on Sunday and on Friday. Commissioner for home affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, further revealed that the state is not interested in sanctioning any religious house but will encourage them to comply with guidelines for reopening of worship centers.     The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has been flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the treatment of a severe neck pain.   The Senate says it received the cheering news that President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the repealed and re-enacted Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA). Spokesperson of the Senate, Sen.Ajibola Basiru (APC Osun), in a statement in Abuja on Saturday said Buhari’s assent of the CAMA bill had completed the final stage for the enactment of the Act, repealing and replacing the 30-year-old legislation. He said assent to the bill had further demonstrated the cordial relationship between the National Assembly and the Presidency. Buruji Kashamu Dies at 62

    He died due to complications of COVID-19, his former colleague, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce said in a tweet on Saturday. “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19,” Murray-Bruce said. “Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. “He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”  Kashamu served as a Senator representing Ogun-East in the eighth National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was 62. He joins a list of prominent Nigerians who have succumbed to the novel coronavirus.
