Atletico Madrid Star Joao Felix in awe of Chelsea team

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has revealed that he likes to watch Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount play. claiming he knew all about the England international’s talents before he even made the first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge. Felix, who has been tipped to succeed Cristiano Ronaldo as the king of Portuguese football, is no doubt, well-quipped to follow in his mentor’s footsteps owing to his blistering form in the colours of Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese sensation signed a seven-year contract with Atletico Madrid in 2019 for a transfer fee of   £113 million -the fourth highest sum ever paid in football and Benfica’s biggest transfer also Atlético’s most expensive signing ever.   However, the 21-year-old, who has notched up nine goals in 27 games in all competition this season, declared his admiration for Mount ahead of the Roji Blancos Champions League clash with Chelsea on Tuesday. He said: “I like the way he [Mount] plays, the way he likes to drag the ball, the

EPL: Man City midfielder Ikay Gundogan wins player of the month award

The midfielder delivered a string of sensational league performances, scoring five times, including a goal at Chelsea and a wonderful double against West Brom.

He was central to City’s perfect month, which saw us win all six of our Premier League games as we moved top of the table.

City also won three cup matches in January, with our nine wins in all competitions the most by a team in the top four tiers of English football in a single month since the formation of the Football League in 1888.

Gundogan, who many believe is in the form of his life, says winning every game last month is a hugely significant achievement and demonstrates the confidence running through the City squad.

“The highlight of January was all month because we won all of our games,” he said.

“I think it was the run and the feeling that I had inside of myself that you are so strong as a team at the moment and not just yourself. That is just an amazing feeling.

“I had that feeling a few times in the season where we had 100 points or the season after when we won the league one point ahead of Liverpool or when I played for Dortmund.

“You have that feeling sometimes when you feel so strong and unbeatable and that was the best moment that I had throughout the month.”

The award was richly deserved for a player integral to Pep Guardiola’s system.

He demonstrates versatility and intelligence, capable of playing a deep-lying midfield role, as well as influencing the game higher up the pitch.

But Gundogan, the ultimate team player, says he doesn’t court individual praise.

“I am very happy, but it is always a team effort," he said.

“I have always been someone who does not pay a lot of attention to individual trophies but it is always nice to be recognised.

“I don’t know what the secret was to getting there, I just think it is the support I get from my teammates and all of the people around the team and the club.

“I don’t take it for granted. I will try to continue like that and maybe even do better.”
