Saraki Resumes Senate Plenary Amidst Blockage By Security Operatives

He entered the chamber by 10:40 am and is currently presiding over plenary. Saraki’s arrival at the Senate Chambers comes after security operatives laid siege to his residence on Tuesday morning. His convoy was reportedly blocked by security operatives hindering him from leaving his residence. The Senate President was on his way to report at the Police Headquarters when his convoy was allegedly blocked by the police. It however not clear how the Senate Presimanoeuvredvered his way out, of his residence despite the siege laid to his house by security operatives.

Kwankaso, Melaye, 13 Other Senators Defects From APC To PDP

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso representing Kano Central, Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, and thirteen other senators have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement of their defection was made at Tuesday plenary after the Senate president received and read a letter from the defected senators.

The defection senators are:
Sen. Lanre Tejuuso – Ogun Central
Sen. Lafiagi Shaaba – Kwara North
Sen. Barnabas Gemade – Benue North East
Sen. Ibrahim Rafiu – Kwara South
Sen. Muhammad Shitu Ubali – Jigawa North East
Sen. Isa Misau – Bauchi Central
Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi – Kaduna North
Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu – Oyo Central
Sen. Abdullahi Danbaba – Sokoto South
Sen. Usman Bayero Nafada – Gombe North
Sen. Suleiman Nazif – Bauchi North
Sen. Soji Akanbi – Oyo South
Sen. Abdul-Aziz Nyako – Adamawa Central

With this defection, the PDP is now the majority in the Senate.

Sen. Melaye Says FCT Minister Is Incorruptible

Senate committee chairman on FCT, Sen. Dino Melaye, has said that he is impressed with the 2017 budget performance of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, just as he declared the FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, ‘incorruptible minister of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.’
The senator made the declaration during a budget defence session at the National Assembly, last week, also confessed that his committee has set ‘several traps for the minister but he scaled through all temptations.’

Sen.Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West) on Sunday received some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains who defected to the APC in his constituency. We Decided To Leave APC Because Of Buhari - R-APC Leader

A leader of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), Alhaji Kawu Baraje, said yesterday that the group has decided to leave the ruling APC.

Baraje and the spokesman of the group, Kassim Afegbua, said the overtures from President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to Saraki and other top politicians can't work.

Afegbua said they could not trust the leadership of te party to implement whatever agreement is reached with them.

Speaking in Ilorin, Baraje, a Saraki acolyte, said: "As far as I know, there is no juicy position that can replace the kind of embarrassment, debasement and horrifying experiences many of us have suffered and gone through in the hands of some few mischievous members of the APC; it’s quite unfortunate.”

Saying a decision had been taken by the group to leave the APC, Baraje added that if Senate President Bukola Saraki felt the need to stay back in APC, it is okey for him but he would not have his supporters with him.
